Nancy's Notes 11-8-07

“The Secret Servant” by Daniel Silva, “The Ever-running Man” by Marcia Muller,

We have a nice sized large print collection. It’s become quite popular in the last few years. Not only do we have many volumes of our own, we also are on an exchange program with Decorah. Every month or so Decorah lends us two-dozen large print books. This is a great way for us to expand our collection at no added cost. This week I’m going to let you know about two of our latest editions to the large print section.
The first book is a suspense novel by Daniel Silva entitled “The Secret Servant”. Gabriel Allon is called upon to travel to Amsterdam to purge the archives of a murdered terrorism analyst who also had ties to the Israeli intelligence. He discovers a conspiracy festering in the city’s Islamic underground. The target is Elizabeth Halton, daughter of the American ambassador to the Court of St. James who is brutally kidnapped. Drawn again into the service of American intelligence, Gabriel hurls himself into a desperate search for the woman.
Another thriller is “The Ever-running Man” by Marcia Muller. Sharon McCone is hired by her husband’s security firm to catch “the ever-running man”, a shadowy figure who leaves explosives at their various offices. When McCone narrowly escapes an explosion at the San Francisco location, she gets a glimpse of him. Anyone connected to the firm seems to be within his range. With McCone’s discovery of the firm’s shady past, she is forced to question her husband about its history of corruption. This puts her marriage in jeopardy, but uncovering the secrets of the firm may be the only way she can save her husband’s life, and her own.
Although both of the books listed above are of the mystery/suspense genre we have a very wide variety of large prints, everything from romance to biographies. If you find reading small print a strain come in and try this collection. Another option for those who are having trouble reading the printed page is our audio books. We have books on both cassette and CD. They are great for “reading” while driving or working around the house.
Come in and “check us out” Monday through Wednesday between noon and 8:00 p.m. or Thursday through Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
