Nancy's Notes, Sept. 18, 2008
Here I am writing at the new location. We spent last week moving the entire facility from 302 N. Main to 912 Central Avenue East. Things went as smoothly as they could with this type of undertaking. We hired movers for the books, magazines, and other library materials. This kept our headaches to a minimum. The storerooms and any other library property was the responsibility of the staff. Several people stopped in as we were loading or unloading pickups and helped with those tasks. Some of the high school students helped us move the computers and their desks.
Our groundbreaking was a great success. Many community members showed up to witness this historical moment. Clarion-Goldfield 5th graders gave up recess time during the week to make the refreshments enjoyed by those in attendance. Several students were on hand that day to carry chairs, serve refreshments, and throw a little dirt.
If you haven’t been past the library building in the past couple of days, big things are happening already. The front steps are gone since the entry will be in a new location, digging has begun, and asbestos removal is underway. Walking through the empty building and watching the many changes is rather sad and yet exciting at the same time.
We have found a building that will suit our needs nicely during the next year. We’ve brought our entire collection so stop in: Monday through Wednesday between noon and 8:00 p.m. or Thursday through Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
