Nancy's Notes - June 3, 2010
The first couple of books I'm going to write about are non-fiction. The first, "Divorce After 50", is written by attorney Janice Green. Green has over 30 years of experience as a divorce lawyer and has counseled many people over the age of 50. These later in life divorces are often complicated by blended families, health care concerns, and retirement planning. Green addresses: ethical divorce, how to receive guidance from lawyers, dividing marital property fairly, retirement plan rules, spousal support, the affects on estate planning, and keeping good health care.
My second book, "How to Never Look Fat Again", is every woman's dream book. It discusses tips for looking thinner without starving yourself or exercising. Author and style expert Charla Krupp gives advice to readers about smart ways to hide arm flap, muffin tops, and back fat; which fabrics, colors and styles make you look fat, and which ones make the pounds drop away; she gives solutions for special situations such as workout gear and swimsuits; and list of which products to avoid.
I am going to include one fictional book today. Marti Leimbach has written "The Man from Saigon". The story takes place in 1967. Susan Fifford is one of the first women correspondents in Saigon. She is dedicated to her job and in love with an American TV reporter. Son is a Vietnamese photographer anxious to get his work into the American press. Together they cover every aspect of the war. Then one November morning, after escaping death during an ambush, they find themselves the prisoners of three Vietcong soldiers who have been separated from their unit. They now face life in the jungle living under constant threat of being killed. Son turns out to have a secret history that will eventually separate Susan from the American lover. Held under terrifying conditions, it becomes clear how profound their relationship is and how important it has becomes to both of them.
