My first book is a multigenerational tale of war, friendship, and family, "I Gave My Heart to Know This" by Ellen Baker.  In 1944 Grace Anderson, Lena Maki, and Lena’s mother, Violet, joined the ranks of women working for the war effort. Their jobs were not enough to distract them from the anxieties of wartime and their fear for their loved ones, Lena’s twin brother, Derrick, and Grace’s high school sweetheart, Alex. When shattering news arrives from the front, the lives of the three women are thrown into turmoil. More than five decades later, Violet’s great-grand-daughter, Julia, returns to the small farmhouse where Violet and Lena once lived. After her own recent tragedy, Julia begins to uncover the dark secrets that shattered her family, learning that redemption and love can be found in the most unexpected places.
Dick Francis’ newest release is, “Gamble”. Nick “Foxy” Foxton was enjoying his career as a world-class jockey until a near-fatal accident cut his dream short. When he returns a spectator years later, nothing can prepare him for what unfolds. Minutes before the biggest event on the racing calendar, Nick’s colleague, Herb Kovak is shot at point-blank range and the gunman disappears into the crowd. Nick is baffled as to why anyone would want to kill such a gentle soul. Soon Nick begins to doubt how well he really knew Herb. On discovering that Herb named him beneficiary in his will, Nick wonders why he has been entrusted with his legacy.
