Nancy's notes - November 27, 14
Each year the library is required to submit an annual report to the State Library of Iowa. I thought you may be interested in some of the data, so here we go!
We are open 43 hours per week with a staff of four certified librarians. Our library is accredited with the State Library at a Tier III level. The rating depends on the number of State Library standards met and the amount of funding received by their communities. We are at the highest level for a size C library.
Many people come in and ask how many books we own. We have 22,708 physical volumes on our shelves. There are 8,200 e-books available through our NEIBORS program. We have 50 magazine subscriptions available in-house with 180 more available for free on-line through our ZINIO subscription. Our collection of audio books includes 500 volumes on our shelves and 4000 available on-line. The DVD collection includes 1000 movies, some blue rays discs are also included in this number. In total, we have 26,600 materials available.
There are currently 17 databases available to the public. These include the e-books, audio books, and periodicals listed above as well as EBSCO for professional journals, Learning Express which is for tutorials and practice tests, and ABC Mouse. We will soon complete the digitalization of our microfilm collection which has a link on our home page.
Our outreach program includes deliveries to the Meadows, baskets of books for Kids Korner as well as the nursing home and jail, and monthly visits to the local preschool students.
The library is becoming a service center for the community. We send many faxes and make many copies almost daily. We also provide free wireless for the public. This is a great service with the students each having access to their own i-pads and the number of mobile phones used by the public.
We had 48,000 people through our doors last year. Many of these used our community rooms which were rented over 180 times.
To find out about any of these services stop in: Monday through Wednesdaybetween noon and 8:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday between 10:00 a. m. and 5:00 p.m., or Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
