New on the Shelf

“Parting Shot“ by Linwood Barclay.  When a drunk driver takes the life of a young girl, the small town of Promise Falls wants answers, justice, and perhaps even revenge.  The fact that the one responsible is a teen himself matters little.  Social media outrage fans the flames and threats against the boy and his family keep increasing.  Into this mess steps Cal Weaver, called to investigate the threats and finding himself neck deep in a truly cold-blooded revenge scheme.  Now it’s just a matter of time before plans are finalized and threats turn to action.

“Sleeping Beauties“ by Stephen King and Owen King.  Something strange is happening to the women of the world when they go to sleep; a gauzy, cocoon-like, covering wraps them up.  If a woman is woken up, if the wrapping is disturbed they become feral and violently attack, otherwise they sleep peacefully.  Meanwhile, the men of the world are on their own and are steadily reverting to more primal instincts.  But there is one woman, Evie, who is seemingly immune to the sleeping disease.  Is she simply an anomaly, could she hold the cure, or is her presence the cause of all humanities misfortune.

If you need a little help to get into the holiday spirit, we have displays of Christmas books and DVDs for children and adults.  And if you need some inspiration for Christmas dinner we have cookbooks for many tastes and diets as well, including some new Air Fryer cookbooks.

As the seasons change, don’t forget to capture that natural beauty for the Seasons of Wright County photo contest.  The submission deadline is February 28, more information and sign-up sheets are available at the library and online on our website.
