New on the Shelf
"Year One" by Nora Roberts. New Year’s Eve marked the beginning of the end for the world as people knew it. Sickness spreads, the electrical grid fails, and government collapses, and over half the global population is gone. As science and technology fade, magic rises to take its place for both good and ill.  Now a group of survivors seeks to escape a lawless New York for the promise of a better future to the west. Some adapted to this new world emerging around them, others clinging to the last embers of the
world that was, they must all find their way while forces both outside and in try to destroy them all.
"The Eyes of the Dragon" by Stephen King. In the kingdom of Delain King Roland rules with a fair hand and help from his closest adviser, his wife Queen Sasha. However not all are fond of Roland, namely his advisor and wizard Flagg who plots to remove the royal family from power and install himself as supreme ruler. The kings’ sons: Peter, heir to the throne, and Thomas, the second son, must thwart the plans of the evil magician and save themselves and their kingdom.
"The Girl in the Tower" by Katherine Arden. Continuing the story started in The Bear and the Nightingale, we find Vasya confronted with an impossible situation. Both orphaned and outed as a witch by her village her options seem limited to either life in a convent or to be married off in a match made by her sister. Not satisfied with either Vasya instead chooses to disguise herself as a boy and seek adventure in the wider world. After defeating a group of bandits terrorizing the countryside, Vasya finds herself in the good graces of the Grand Prince of Moscow. However, can she maintain her disguise and save the kingdom from strange forces only she may be able to face.
