New on the Shelf

Sometimes the library gets a lot of new books in all at once and it can be hard to pick just a few to tell everyone about, but these books are really something so we’ll give you a quick overview of some of them that caught our attention so you can decide which you want to read first.

Before you know it, it’ll be time to get started on your garden so now is the time to get all the info you’ll need for the best growing season ever.  You can learn what to do and when to do it with “The Backyard Homestead Seasonal Planner” by Ann Larkin Hansen, covering all four seasons and everything from plants to equipment.  If you’re looking to take your garden to the next level then check out “Blue Ribbon Vegetable Gardening“ by Jodi Torpey for tips on huge harvests and prizewinning produce.  Looking a little helpful beauty in your garden, perhaps “100 Plants to Feed the Bees“ by the Xerces Society will help you plant for looks and pollinators.

Of course you need to do something with your garden harvest, so you’ll need some cookbooks.  “One Sheet Eats“ has over 100 recipes that can all be made on a single baking sheet, covering everything from single dishes to full meals.  If you have pumpkins in your garden then “The Pumpkin Cookbook“ by Deedee Stovel covers a wide range of uses for a deceptively simple ingredient.  And if you’re looking for something truly different, “The Maple Syrup Cookbook“ by Ken Haedrich is just what you need, with recipes for sweet and savory dishes for any occasion.

Perhaps you need to build something around the house, like a fence or a garden shed.  “How to Build a Fence“ by Jeff Beneke walks through planning, material selection, and putting everything together.  If a slightly bigger project in what you have in mind, “Building Small“ by David & Jeanie Stiles looks at the design and building of tiny houses and backyard buildings.

Come check out a new book and learn something new at the library.
