New On the Shelf

Matchmaking for Beginners by Maddie Dawson.  All Marnie ever wanted was a simple suburban life – husband, kids, minivan, the whole picket fence dream.  When she gets engaged to the man of her dreams, she’s sure it will all come together.  That is until she meets her fiancé’s great-aunt Blix Holliday, busybody, matchmaker, adviser, and currently dying.  After two barely endurable weeks, Marnie ends up divorced, just as Blix predicted.  Perhaps more shocking, Marnie is left with Blix’s Brooklyn brownstone and her list of unfinished “projects”,  people Blix was trying to help and now in the hands of a dubious Marnie.

Princess by James Patterson.  When one receives a summons from Princess Caroline, third in line to the British throne, it is not to be refused, even by Jack Morgan.  A flight in his Gulfstream jet later, Jack finds the princess requesting both his skills and his discretion.  A close friend of the princess has gone missing and must be found before the media turns it into a full-blown scandal.  Now Jack Morgan and the rest of Private are on the case, even if the princess is hiding something.

Low Chicago –A Wild Cards Novel edited by George R. R. Martin.  After World War II, an alien virus took root on Earth, granting incredible powers to some and physical alterations to others.  Those with beneficial powers were called aces, and those with physical mutations called jokers.  Every generation new aces and jokers arise and new battles between good and evil unfold.  A super powered explosion at a high stakes poker game throws a group of high profile criminals through time itself, threatening the very fabric of reality.  See how some of fictions best writers take this concept and run wild on the pages.
