New On the Shelf

Tangerine by Christine Mangan.  Alice Shipley and Lucy Mason used to be the best of friends and inseparable roommates, but after a falling out, they hadn’t spoken in over a year.  So when Alice and her new husband arrived in Tangier, Lucy was the last person she thought she’d see.  Alice soon finds herself leaning on Lucy, her open attitude helping Alice adjust to the unfamiliar atmosphere of Morocco.  After a short time, however, Alice begins to feel overwhelmed by Lucy and her almost controlling attitude.  When her husband disappears, Alice must reconsider not just coming to Tangier but her friend and even her own state of mind.

Ruthless Tide by Al Roker.  NBC Host and weather authority of note, Al Roker takes a new look at one of the deadliest floods in US history, the Johnstown Flood of 1889.  In May of 1889, nearly a foot of rain in under 24 hours swelled the Little Conemaugh River, panicking engineers and threatening to breach the South Fork Dam in central Pennsylvania.  Local residents were warned, but passed it off as a false alarm.  When the dam finally broke twenty million gallons of water rushed downstream, bringing death and destruction on its way to Johnstown.  What would be known as The Great Flood caused seventeen million dollars in damages and the deaths of more than 2,200 people.

Tom Clancy Line of Sight by Mike Maden.  Dr. Kathy Ryan cared for a young Bosnian girl injured in an attack during the Balkan War, restoring her eyesight and saving her life.  Twenty years later her son, Jack Ryan Jr., sets out to find that girl and reintroduce her to his mother.  Aida Curic has grown into a remarkable young woman, running a refugee agency that helps the children of her native Bosnia.  Jack feels drawn to Aida, but before either can act, Aida is kidnapped from the streets of Sarajevo.  In his search for Aida, Jack must stand against Serbian mobsters, Croatian paramilitary units, and a country seething with ethnic animosities.  The Balkan War may be over, but there are still scars that refuse to heal.
