New On the Shelf

Hitting the Books by Jenn McKinlay.  Of all the things one expects to find at the scene of a hit and run accident, a stack of library material is likely far towards the bottom of that list.  However, that is exactly the case, and library director Lindsey Norris is called in by the police to identify the books and possibly who borrowed them.  Before Lindsey can get to that, the victim of the hit and run suffers another “accident” moving the investigation from traffic accident to attempted murder.  Lindsey and her library crew must piece this puzzle together before anyone else winds up dead.

Shadow Tyrants by Clive Cussler.  The Nine Unknown Men, something of a legend among those in the know, charged by their emperor with safeguarding knowledge powerful enough to change the history of mankind.  Now the descendants of the Unknown Men have split into two factions, waging a brutal conflict against each other to save the world according to their views.  Both sides believe they are in the right and working to save humanity, however only one group is willing to go to horrific lengths to accomplish this.  The only force standing between these two warring groups and the world at large is Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon, but can even these brave souls save humanity from the terror ready to be unleashed.

The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal.  Wiping out a large chunk of the US government and kicking off a climate disaster that my well render earth inhospitable to humanity, a meteor strike has also moved up the timetable for earth’s space colonization efforts.  The “all hands on deck” situation leaves openings and opportunity for most all of humanity to engage in the effort, like Elma York who is looking to become the earth’s first Lady Astronaut.  Elma, like many other women flocking to the newly reinvigorated space program, look to not merely break that glass ceiling, but demolish it utterly.
