New On the Shelf

Sea of Greed by Clive Cussler and Graham Brown.  Three oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico have exploded, totally destroying them and the hopes of reviving the once oil rich area they were working.  Things are looking grim and the President of the United States needs answers, so he turns to Kurt Austin and the NUMA Special Projects Team.  The clues lead the team to an alternative energy billionaire, whose stated goal is to end all dependence on oil, but there may be a more nefarious aspect to her goals.  The NUMA crew finds the oil fields are infected with bacteria that devour the oil while it is still in the earth, bacteria thought lost for decades after a pair of submarines disappeared in the Mediterranean.  Now Kurt and the team must dodge hired killers and find a shipwreck that has eluded discovery for over fifty years to have a chance at stopping the biological menace that has been set loose.

Dark Sacred Night by Michael Connelly.  Back on the night shift once again, Renee Ballard returns to Hollywood Station to find someone going through the old files.  Harry Bosch is investigating a cold case and the search for information led him to Ballards’ office, which he is promptly kicked out of.  The case is the death of Daisy Clayton, a fifteen-year-old runaway on the Hollywood streets, murdered and left to be found in a dumpster.  Renee finds herself connecting with the case on a personal level, and soon teams up with Bosch to find out what really happened to Daisy and bring her killer to justice.

Holy Ghost by John Sandford.  With a population of seven hundred and a mayoral slogan of “I’ll do what I can”, Pinion, Minnesota is the kind of town where nothing exciting ever happens.  Then the mayor and a friend get a bright idea, there was a place where an image of the Virgin Mary appeared and the economy of the town went through the roof almost overnight!  The plan is to make something similar happen in Pinion, and things are coming along smoothly until the dead body shows up.  However, a body is only the beginning and soon the town, and Virgil Flowers, will be neck deep in trouble.
