New On the Shelf

A Christmas Revelation by Anne Perry.  Life is hard for a river urchin scraping by on the banks of the Thames, but with his new job and a kind of family coming together, nine-year-old Worm may just have his first proper Christmas.  Working at Hester Monk’s clinic with Miss Claudine Burroghs and old Squeaky Robinson agrees with Worm and things are finally looking up.  However, when Worm witnesses the abduction of a woman by rough characters just days before Christmas he turns to the only people in his life for help.  Squeaky know the less desirable elements of the city from his rather checkered past, and while he would rather not get involved, he can’t bear to say no to Worm.  Their discovery of the damsel in less distress than expected leads the now trio to a completely new set of yuletide troubles.

Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty.  Ten days at a health spa could be a welcome respite from a hectic life, or it could change your life.  Frances Welty, a former best-selling romance novelist suffering from back problems, a broken heart, and of course a paper cut, finds her fellow resort goers immediately fascinating.  Beyond the other guests at Tranquillum House, Frances also finds herself drawn the owner/director who exudes an air of charisma and mystery.  Soon Frances, and the other guests as well, will have to decide if they will stay and fully immerse themselves in the total Tranquillum experience or cut and run while there is still time.

Beauchamp Hall by Danielle Steel.  At one time Winona Farmington had her life all planned out, graduate college, move to New York, and start a successful career in publishing.  The reality of her life ended up being a return to her hometown to care for her sick mother.  Now with a dead-end job and a terrible relationship, Winnie tells herself that dreams are just that and finds solace in the British period drama ‘Beauchamp Hall’.  Being passed over for a well-deserved promotion and her boyfriend and best friend betraying her gives Winnie the desperate motivation to radically change her life.  Hopping a plane to go to the filming location of Beauchamp Hall, Winnie finds herself settling into the local along with the owners of the castle used for filming and the cast and crew of the show.  It may just be that this is where Winona Farmington was meant to be all along.
