New On the Shelf

The Best of Us by Robyn Carr.  Practicing medicine in the soothing environment of Timberlake, Colorado is a perfect and much needed change of pace for Dr. Leigh Culver.  Far away from the stress of her in Chicago, Leigh finds the only thing missing is her aunt Helen.  An independent woman who gladly raised her sister’s orphaned daughter, Helen Culver now enjoys a life of travel, writing mystery novels, and avoiding winter if possible.  Deciding to visit Leigh, Helen finds that her niece still needs her help, particularly when it comes to her love life.  However, Leigh isn’t the only one in need of sorting out her feelings, as Helen seems to be falling for both the location and a local.

The Burglar by Thomas Perry.  Elle Stowell has a very particular set of skills that she has used to make a living for most of her life: burglary.  With her combination of smarts, skills, and looks, she can blend into the ritzy Bel Air neighborhoods and find the perfect home to ply her trade.  Elle lives for the thrill of the score and has made a rather good living doing it, until stumbling into the scene of a triple homicide in the home of a wealthy art dealer.  Making her escape from the grisly scene, Elle soon discovers there is someone else in the shadows, someone searching for her.  Realizing her knowledge makes her a target, Elle puts her skills to the task of uncovering just who was murdered and why, and if she can even save herself.

Splash! by Stephen Glover.  Coming to terms with the digital age is a difficult task for some people, especially a drunk, broken-down tabloid journalist like Sam Blunt.  However, with a story on the line and the help of Benedict the intern, Sam is willing to give it a shot.  Beset on all sides by the self-serving proprietor of the paper, various do-gooders, and the shifty online editor, Sam and Benedict fight to nail the story of the century.  Exposing political corruption and the rot at the heart of the Establishment won’t get win them any friends, but the story needs to be told and they’re the ones to do it.
