New On the Shelf

The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls by Anissa Gray.  The Butler sisters have had their share of hardship in their lives, but facing an actual trial will be the hardest yet.  In her role as eldest and nominal leader of the family, Althea has looked after her sisters with a will of iron, whether they like it or not.  However, when Althea and her husband are arrested, the job of looking after the family home and Althea’s teenage daughters falls to the younger sisters, Viola and Lillian.  In the blink of an eye, the Butler family goes from being highly respected in their small town to disgraced and vilified.  While awaiting the trial and wondering just how this happened, the sisters must support each other as never before.

Run Away by Harlan Coben.  Simon Greene has lost his daughter once already, lost to addiction and living on the streets with an abusive boyfriend.  Determined not to lose her permanently, Simon searches for the girl he knows in his heart is out there somewhere.  The woman he finds playing guitar for change in Central Park is barely recognizable, but it is his daughter.  Dirty, dangerously thin, and terrified she flees from his attempt to convince her to come home.  When the boyfriend turns up dead, Simon knows there is only one thing for him to do, follow his daughter into the darkness that has entrapped her and try to save them both.

No Mercy by Joanna Schaffhausen.  Officer Ellery Hathaway refuses to apologize for shooting a murderer, even if it was in cold blood, and resents being forced into leave and into a therapy group for victims of violent crime.  Ellery finds her priorities shifting as she comes to suspect one member of the group helped wrongfully convict a man on arson charges years ago.  Additionally, she must look after a survivor of a brutal attack whose attacker is still on the loose.  Seeking advice from her longtime friend and FBI profiler, Reed Markham, puts them both in a precarious position, Reed is up for a promotion with the caveat that he stay far away from Ellery and the trouble she seems to bring.  Ignoring all signs of danger Ellery digs into everyone else’s past looking for answers, which could end either her job prospects or her life.
