Robert B. Parker’s Buckskin by Robert Knott.  With Appaloosa’s most recent sheriff laid to rest, Marshals Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch are faced with the candidates now vying for the now vacant office.  To add to the confusion of intense campaigning, someone just struck gold in the foothills outside of town.  Gold means a rapid influx of people and money for Appaloosa and a wagonload of new problems for Cole and Hitch.  Tensions are high as two heavily armed groups face off over the gold and the election for sheriff is a day away and terrible storms are on the horizon.  Compounding matters for the Marshals, a series of anonymous letters to the Appaloosa Star point towards a killer in their midst looking for vengeance and to reclaim what was taken from them.  Appaloosa is a powder keg and Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch must find out who is holding the match.

Where We Come From by Oscar Casares.  With the drug cartels on one side and zealous border patrol agents on the other, towns on the U.S.-Mexico border have developed something of a dangerous reputation, and Brownsville is no exception.  Brownsville is where Nina grew up, where she found and then lost her love, and where she is raising her godson Orly after the death of his mother.  It is also a town of secrets old and new, like the Daniel.  Smuggled across the border by amoral human traffickers, Daniel escaped and found shelter with Nina.  Pursued by the criminals who brought him to the U.S. and the agents who want to send him back, Nina tries to keep Daniel completely hidden.  However, the intense friendship between Daniel and Orly, combined with both boys desire for independence, may end up exposing them all.

100 Speeches That Changed the World by Colin Salter.  Rousing speeches by impassioned orators have the power to imbue the will and determination to alter the course of history in those that hear them.  From Rome and Athens of old to the abolition movement and the space race, the right word at the right time has moved humanity.  Drawn from history, Colin Salter has put together one-hundred of the speeches that made the world what it is today.  With context and history of the time and place of the speeches, as well as detailed analysis and illustrations and photos, more in depth understanding of these momentous orations can be gained.
