New on the Shelf

Killer Instinct by James Patterson.  Dr. Dylan Reinhart must leave his academic ivory tower to return to the streets of New York and the side of his old partner, Detective Elizabeth Needham, after the murder of an Ivy League professor.  To further complicate matters, New York City must deal with the aftermath of the worst terror attack since 9/11, and Dylan is shaken to the core by a name on the casualty list.  Wondering if his past is in danger of being exposed, the duo must also contend with Elizabeth’s unwelcome media fame after a daring act of bravery.  Uncomfortable in the harsh media spotlight, Elizabeth also finds herself a new and fascinating target for the perpetrator of the terror attack.  Dylan and Elizabeth are both experienced and surprisingly successful investigators, but this hunt for the lunatic behind it all will be taxing and deadly.

The Girl Who Lived Twice by David Lagercrantz.  On the hunt for her nemesis, Lisbeth Salander has moved from Stockholm, removed her piercings, and changed her hair; she could pass as any ordinary businessperson.  However, most businesspeople don’t have a survivors scars, hackers genius, and a Beretta in their jacket.  When an unidentified homeless man dies with Mikael Blomkvist’s number in his pocket and a government minister’s name on his lips, Mikael must track down his old friend once again.  Although he will do his best to protect her, Mikael cannot face their enemies on his own.

The Last Widow by Karin Slaughter.  The kidnaping of a scientist and a terror attack in Georgia may be linked, and the fate of the nation will depend on it.  The abduction of a doctor working for the Centers for Disease Control from a shopping center parking lot leaves the authorities desperately seeking answers.  A month later, two explosions rock Atlanta’s busiest and most important neighborhoods- the location of Emory University, two major hospitals, the FBI headquarters, and the CDC.  Sara Linton, a medical examiner, and her partner Will Trent team up with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to look into the attack and kidnaping, and run headfirst into a deadly conspiracy.
