New on the Shelf

Lethal Agent by Vince Flynn and Kyle Mills.  In the grips of an incredibly divisive presidential campaign, America is weakened and distracted by political divisions.  While the politicians bicker and sling mud, agents of ISIS kidnap a brilliant French microbiologist and force him to manufacture for a coming attack.  ISIS releases a series of videos detailing their captives’ progress to stoke fears in the U.S. and they hire a Mexican drug cartel to smuggle the bioweapon across the border.  However, this is all a ploy to distract Mitch Rapp so the terrorists can successfully weaponized a deadly new virus recently discovered in Yemen.  Going up against the cartels and terrorist leaders and with no support from the politicians at home, Mitch is in for the fight of his life.

The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates.  Born into slavery, Hiram Walker lost his mother at a young age when she was sold away to another owner.  Adding to the trauma, Hiram also loses all memory of her, but in its place grows a new and mysterious power.  Years later, Hiram almost drowns in the local river, but that same strange power saves his life.  This new near-death experience crystalizes a determination in Hiram, to flee the only home he has ever know in the pursuit of freedom.  Hiram’s journey leads him through Virginia plantations, guerrilla cells in the southern wilderness and the seemingly utopian North.  Drafted into a war between the slavers and the enslaved, Hiram lives with one goal in mind, to rescue the family he left behind.

The United States of Trump by Bill O’Reilly.  Author of the bestselling Killing series, O’Reilly now turns his observational talents on his latest subject –President Donald J. Trump.  Eschewing partisan politics and taking a more neutral view, O’Reilly constructs a narrative from primary source interviews and detailed history.  From Trump’s childhood and family to his business ventures through his journey to the White House, this work presents and intimate view of how Trump’s view of America has formed and shaped his perception.
